Aggressive, Experienced, Compassionate.
New Jersey Rideshare Accident Lawyer
An injury involving an Uber, Lyft or another rideshare vehicle can leave you dealing with more than one driver, insurer or company. Willis Injury Law helps people injured in New Jersey rideshare accidents understand what needs investigation. Whether you were a passenger, an occupant of another vehicle or a pedestrian, the review starts with the trip and collision facts. Request a free case review or call (888) 218-INJURY (4658).
Why the driver’s app status matters
The driver’s status when the collision occurred is an important coverage question. Was the app off, was the driver logged in and waiting for a request, or had a ride been accepted? New Jersey’s rideshare framework distinguishes between being available through a network and providing a prearranged ride. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission’s rideshare information explains the state framework. A company logo or an open app alone does not establish which policy will respond to a particular injury.
Tell us what you know about the ride status, but do not guess if the information is unavailable. Trip receipts, app records, driver information and the crash report may help establish the timeline. We review applicable policies and coverage positions rather than assuming that every rideshare crash has the same insurance or that a particular coverage amount is available to every person.
Records to save after an Uber or Lyft crash
Keep your trip receipt, pickup and destination details, driver and vehicle information, support messages and any insurer correspondence. Save original photographs of the scene, vehicles and road conditions, together with witness contact information. If the ride was booked through someone else’s account, tell us who booked it and what records they have. Do not post private account credentials or sensitive medical details in a public review or social-media thread.
The exact collision time and location can matter when comparing app records with other evidence. Tell us whether emergency services attended, which report agency was involved and whether nearby cameras or a dashcam may have recorded the event. You do not need every record before contacting us. An initial review can identify gaps and discuss appropriate preservation steps.
Passengers, other drivers and pedestrians
A passenger’s questions may differ from those of another driver, cyclist or pedestrian struck by a rideshare vehicle. The conduct of each driver, the sequence of the collision and the available policies need to be evaluated. A rideshare company is not automatically responsible simply because its app was involved. We examine the facts supporting a potential claim and explain what remains uncertain. If several vehicles were involved, provide information about each one rather than focusing only on the app-booked vehicle.
How we investigate and evaluate a claim
Our work can include reviewing the crash report and trip records, identifying potentially relevant insurance, gathering supporting documentation and communicating with insurers. Medical records, bills, work restrictions and missed-earnings records help explain the injury’s effect. We discuss evidence of responsibility and documented losses when evaluating an offer. The value and course of a claim depend on its facts; no website can promise a result or timetable.
The practice is led by Michael T. Willis, who has 25 years of legal experience and previously served as a Special Deputy Attorney General in New Jersey for five years. Learn about our Hackensack office and other injury services.
Common rideshare-accident questions
What if I no longer have access to the trip receipt?
Explain which service was used, who booked the ride and the approximate time and route. Missing app information is a gap to investigate, not a reason to assume a claim succeeds or fails.
Can I request a review before an insurer accepts coverage?
Yes. Bring the correspondence and explain which insurers or company representatives have contacted you. We can discuss the issues raised and what additional information may be needed.
